This multi-family residential architecture project involves the transformation of an urban rental building in Barcelona’s dense Gràcia neighborhood. To optimize the compact site, the development delivers two distinct residential typologies with independent access points. The main volume hosts three efficient apartments served by a comfortable staircase and elevator circulation core. In contrast, the secondary street facade provides direct, private entrances to two larger townhouses designed as independent semi-detached properties.
Both housing typologies prioritize an open-plan layout to maximize visual spaciousness. Integrated open kitchens and sleek glass partitions allow natural light to flood deep into the interior spaces.
The exterior facade design balances contemporary elements with historic context. It features traditional vertical openings that mimic the historic neighborhood fabric, updated with minimalist metal balconies. Additionally, a robust painted steel plinth wraps the ground floor, protecting the structure from vandalism while clearly defining the building’s base.
Finally, the interior design offers open, flexible and highly functional spaces. A neutral color palette paired with industrial-grade, durable materials creates a clean backdrop, allowing future tenants to seamlessly integrate their personal furniture choices.
