This apartment is a rarity in the Barceloneta neighbourhood due to its larger usable area than most other flats in the area, its elevator access, and its location in a cooperative multi-family building from 1953 called “La Maquinista,” designed by the highly renowned architect José Antonio Coderch, a figure of great prestige, with all the quality that entails.

The property is redesigned to function as tourist accommodation or for short-term seasonal rentals. To highlight these features, the apartment was simplified, omitting unnecessary elements and added materials, without sacrificing any bedrooms. The kitchen, which was completely obsolete and uncomfortable, was adjusted to optimal measurements.

A continuous, earthy-toned floor was used to evoke the typical ceramic floors found in José Antonio Coderch’s buildings, but without their drawbacks of porosity and joints. The walls and ceilings were fully coated in white to imbue the apartment with the fishing and humble atmosphere of the neighbourhood it’s located in.
