This Renaissance palace, with a 19th-century addition and located in the old town of Falset, will house the future headquarters of the Consell Comarcal. The building is currently in a deplorable state of preservation.
To address this, the project involves the rehabilitation and restoration of the entire exterior shell without altering its architectural composition. Simultaneously, the project demolishes the entire interior except for the entrance courtyard with its main staircase, the 19th-century dome addition, and the noble floor slab. From this noble floor slab, which is immovable as it’s at the same level as the top of the stone staircase, the rest of the new floor slabs will be positioned.
A second service staircase with double-height spaces will be constructed to improve natural light and ventilation. This staircase will be attached to the service area and office entrance, which is the darkest part of the building. The new floor slabs will be constructed with metallic beams and rounded hollow clay blocks, left exposed to provide greater clear height on all floors. The roofs will be completely reformed, allowing for significant natural light entry between them, the lower slab, and the facade, either through skylights or ventilation and lighting galleries.
Materials and colours of different types will be selected to differentiate the restored parts from the new ones. Drywall construction, such as natural MDF board partitions, will be used for new distributions, and glazed surfaces for separations requiring transparency or translucency. White will be selected for walls and ceilings, except for yellow for the service core and office entrances, and grey for the enclosed box of the main courtyard with the 19th-century dome.
