The project involves the complete refurbishment and interior design of an obsolete apartment in Barcelona’s Eixample district. By eliminating the dark, fragmented rooms characteristic of this typology, the new open layout maximizes cross-ventilation and daily natural light.

The design introduces a new spatial distribution to deliver open, functional spaces without compromising privacy. The floor plan defines two distinct zones. A street-facing open-plan area hosts the kitchen, living, and dining rooms. In contrast, a semi-open rear space allows the secondary lounge and master bedroom to face the main courtyard. The central core incorporates the entrance, utility room, three secondary bedrooms, and two bathrooms opening onto inner courtyards.

In the main living areas, false ceilings were removed to expose the original wooden beams, creating a striking visual contrast against neutral white walls. Dropped ceilings are strictly reserved for the entrance, corridor, and bathrooms to seamlessly conceal all building systems.

To maximize functionality, two large bespoke cabinets anchor the front and rear spaces. These pieces are crafted from white-lacquered MDF with wood accents that match the restored ceiling beams. On the floors, original hydraulic tiles were carefully refurbished and relocated across every room to create a unique, character-rich atmosphere.
