A completely obsolete house on an 83,00m2 plot in the old town of La Morera de Montsant is the subject of a project for a single-family weekend and holiday home. There is a small rear patio with rubble from the house’s demolition, weeds, and very high perimeter walls.
The program required by the developer is distributed over three floors above ground and one below ground. Going down half a level from street level, we find a multi-purpose room, utility room, and a small wine cellar. On the ground floor, elevated half a level from street level, we locate the living-dining-kitchen area, a small multi-purpose room, and a guest bathroom, all opening onto the rear patio and the stairwell. In the attic floor, a rear annex is demolished to improve the patio’s proportion and, consequently, the house’s lighting and ventilation, allowing for a terrace. This level distributes three bedrooms and a full bathroom around the staircase, which stands as the central element of the entire house.
The staircase is projected as a sculpture to act as a backdrop and to function as a light fixture for the lower floors, given the lack of grand views or abundant natural light due to the site’s characteristic, located within the municipality’s rather dense old town.
The predominant white colour of the interior, the stone of the existing walls, and the wood of the flooring give the home a warm and pleasant atmosphere.
