A penthouse in Barcelona’s Eixample district is the starting point for this commission. It has a highly fragmented layout, with very low false ceilings and no elements worthy of preservation. The property calls for a functional program with a large kitchen open to the dining room, two bathrooms, a master bedroom, a guest bedroom, and a study area.

The proposal reconfigures the entire layout, placing the open living area completely open to the terrace. The kitchen is designed at the heart of the home and two areas are structured, the master and guest areas, both with bathrooms, as glass boxes that can be privately partitioned with curtains. The kitchen and dressing room are custom-made furniture that also function as distributors between the rooms, providing privacy for their intended uses.

Dark oak wood and tobacco-coloured walls run through the new layout like an uninterrupted ribbon, giving the home a great warmth that contrasts with the white furniture and glass boxes that serve as distributors. The main pieces of furniture, such as those in the living room, study, and kitchen island, are made of tobacco-coloured lacquered MDF, reinforcing the idea that these are unique pieces in the apartment.
